What is a Notary?

A notary public is a public official who witnesses the signing of a legal document, verifies the identity of a document signer, certifies the authenticity of a document, and confirms the signer’s mental capacity. Notaries are appointed by the state government to serve as impartial witnesses. In Delaware, all notaries are commissioned by the Secretary of State.

Notaries confirm their work by signing and stamping or sealing the document. Notarized documents are considered self-authenticating evidence in court.

With effect from August 1, 2023, members of the public can now verify the status of any Delaware notary by visiting the government-run Delaware OpenData Portal.

Joe’s commission number is 20240625000019, and it expires on 06/25/2026.
